Portsmouth BSC Win IWBSA Super Cup 2015

For the second year running Portsmouth Beach Soccer Club have come away as champions at The Isle of Wight Beach Soccer Association Super Cup 2015.

The sands of Appley Beach in Ryde on The Isle of Wight was once again the home for the longest running Beach Soccer tournament in the UK over the weekend of 11th & 12th July.

After the group stages on the Saturday, which involved 12 teams, it was down to the business of knockout in the 1/4 finals on Sunday. Sandown Sociedad, WKR Santos, Ryde Sports BSC and Portsmouth BSC all made it through to the 1/2 finals at the expense of Solent Santos c, BSC  Sandchez, Red Star Spartans and Ventnor Lions respectively. Sandown Sociedad booked their place in the final with victory over last years beaten finalists WKR Santos in the first 1/2 final while Portsmouth BSC against a stubborn Ryde Sports BSC went right down to a penalty shootout where Portsmouth eventually join Sociedad in the Final. The youthful WKR Santos took 3rd place leaving Ryde Sports BSC in 4th and in a highly competitive Final Portsmouth BSC just managed to edge Sandown Sociedad 6 – 5 for the tilte.

Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Goalkeeper went to England Beach Soccer Internationals Scott Lawson (Sandown Sociedad) and Sam Webb (Portsmouth BSC) respectively.

The top 3 teams of Portsmouth BSC, Sandown Sociedad and WKR Santos have all been invited to participate in the upcoming National Championship to be held in Poole on Sunday 30th August 2015.
