England fall to a 3-0 defeat in Jesolo

ENGLAND 0-3 Moldova 


The Sand Lions went in to today’s game looking for a second win in Jesolo, after a magnificent comeback against Romania on day 1.


Period 1 saw Moldova open the scoring, with a low shot to Humm’s right. Moldova’s keeper saw several of his long range efforts saved or just go wide of the post. England built up play well but were unable to find an end product with one of there only clear chances coming from a deflection from a Moldova shot, which fell kindly to Clarke, who found himself smoothered by defenders and unable to get his shot away. England were unfortunate to concede a second when a cross across the face of goal fell to an on rushing Moldova player, both Day and Humm charged down the shot. The ball deflecting off the two of them and Bowes was unable to clear off the line. (0-2)


The Lions created plenty of chances in period 2, Day going just wide from a header and finding the woodwork from a free kick. Jackson was kept busy in the England goal, making a few crucial saves to keep England in the game. Clarke saw 2 of his free kicks go wide as the second period ended with no goals being scored from either side. (0-2)


The 3rd period, was the quietest of them all, with both teams cancelling each other out for large periods. Jackson made another crucial save from kick off, with Lawson going just wide from a free kick moments later. Farquharson span his defender, but his resulting shot flew over the crossbar. It seemed it wouldn’t be England’s day infront of goal. Moldova scored there 3rd from a free kick, awarded after Temple, who appeared to be fouled, was booked for diving. Temple was unlucky to see two of his efforts saved as the game finished 3-0 to Modolva.


England have one more group game remaining against Portugal, at 15.30 Tomorrow.
