David Dein, the former vice-chairman of both Arsenal Football Club and The FA, supports the recent announcement by EBSL to stage a Men’s Beach Soccer National Championships on 30th August 2015 in Poole, Dorset.
David is a big supporter of Beach Soccer both in England and around the globe. He is a BSWW Ambassador and is actively encouraging The FA to start supporting the sport.
He shares the same view of David Jones, Head of England Beach Soccer, that the sport is both highly exciting and fun to play and watch, but that it is also good for the technical development of any budding professional footballer.
The National Championships will see some of the very best Beach Soccer teams compete to be crowned champions of England. The winners will automatically qualify for the Euro Winners Cup, the Beach Soccer equivalent of the Champions League.
EBSL recently discussed with David (Dein) the forthcoming summer events and EBSL’s plans for the future, to which David has made the following statement: “Beach Soccer needs to have the chance to grow further in England and the National Championships will certainly help with this. I’m fully aware that the sport is still largely played on the south coast and that the England national teams are not represented by the whole of the country. This needs to change, and maybe it can should The FA be persuaded to back the sport, as there are so many talented footballers, both male and female, who are missing out on the opportunity to represent their country in what is a FIFA approved small sided version of football. The National Championships will help to raise the sport’s profile, as will the up and coming Bournemouth Beach Soccer Championships. I wish EBSL every success with both events and to all those participating within the sport at whatever level this summer. I hope to see more people in England playing, coaching, officiating and watching Beach Soccer in 2016, which will be another FIFA World Cup Qualifying year for David and his team.”
