The vision is to bring The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup to the beaches of Bournemouth, and on the evidence from the first Bournemouth Beach Soccer Championship 2015 it would be very hard to argue against it.
Between the 31st July and 2nd August, at the Coastal Activity Park in Bournemouth, beach goers were treated to festival of Beach Soccer, Music and Entertainment, the like of which had not been seen in this country before and the weather was great too.
The event kicked off on the Thursday evening with a corporate Beach Soccer competition followed by a launch party. The main Championship saw 16 teams split into 4 groups, with the winners of each group from Friday pm, Saturday am, Saturday pm and Sunday am all competing for the title on Sunday afternoon in a gruelling format of games.
It was Eastleigh FC Spitfires, in their first ever tournament, that came away victorious over Portsmouth BSC in a highly entertaining final. Boscombe Polonia took the bronze medal.
Eastleigh booked their place in The National Championship with the win which is taking place at the end of August.
Added to this England Ladies entertained the crowd with their skills on the Friday evening and Saturday and Sunday saw exhibition games from the England Mens team.
Put all of this together with the parties with local DJ’s each evening and the result was a truly fantastic event that will surely go from strength to strength.
